The cold, barren country of Finland is at least 10,000 kilometres away from the sunny and dusty Spain. Next to that there are many cultural differences, but metal can always build a bridge. As a result of that, an act from Finland issues their album on a Spanish label. Kill The Romance is an act that I had heard from here and there, but I don't really know them. 'Take Another Life' is their first full-length album. The act's name could imply a hardcore release, but to my relief, that is not so. KTR serves us death in a modern way. This kind of music is often heard lately by many acts from Scandinavia or Germany. It is deathmetal with jumpy rhythms and two or more vocal variations. Personally, I think this style is great, good examples are Soilwork, All That Remains and Mercenary. That is the area KTR emerges from, but the act is less distinguished and less strict. Let me start with mentioning that this is a good album with a very good sound. The three vocal variations are all good; grunt, screams and clear vocals are all firmly used. Most of the melodic parts can be heard during the clear vocal parts, because of which the CD is quite varying. The songs on the album contain nice breaks and a very varying pace. On the other hand, I got the idea the band sometimes wants 'too much'. Less is more, remember? We can conclude that the album had no own identity and that the album is outclassed by the mentioned acts. Totally superfluous the album is not, because I enjoy listening to the album and there are some really nice parts served. The music is played is a good manner. So it is a descent album, but nothing more. Next time, show me some unique ideas or let the album blow me away!
