FOSCOR has been active since the mid-1990s, and it shows in the best possible way. While you can detect hints of Opeth and even early Mastodon in the band's melodies, they seem to draw more heavily on a mixture of that era's bands and the bands that influenced them. Those Horrors Wither at times sounds like an angrier Katatonia, a faster Sabbath, or a more musically competent Celtic Frost. It samples some of the best elements of progressive rock and metal, but mixes them with a heavy dosage of the earthier, grungier fare that resulted in the second wave of death and black metal bands.
FOSCOR has created a diverse and musically boundary-breaking record with Those Horrors Wither. Fans of the less pretentious variety of progressive metal and metalheads who grew up in the 80s and 90s should definitely give it a listen, even if it doesn't always have a clear destination in mind.
