'100 M.P.H.' was recorded totally live and released as the debut album from VARDIS on the miniscule Redball label. Why live? Why not? What better way to set your stall out than to show what the band is like in a live scenario? The particular stall that was to be set out was that of metallic boogie merchants incarnate, a rip roaring, thundering, knockabout circus that saw Steve Zodiac take the role of bare footed ring leader, ably assisted by bassist Alan Selway and drummer Gary Pearson. To call '100 M.P.H.' one of the most extraordinary debut albums of all time might seem a little ludicrous, but listening to the vaguely naïve optimism that runs through the album, you can't help but wonder what a world in which Mr. Zodiac and co. became multi platinum selling artist might have been like. My guess is it might well have been a lot of fun...
