Founded in 1989 by drummer Joakim Sterner, Stockholm's Blackhearts represented a unique and fearless vision from the very beginning and confirmed their prowess in 1993 with the now legendary debut album The Nocturnal Silence. Leaving behind the self-conscious dilettantism and primitive sounds that many of their peers cherished, Necrophobic created a bold and vibrant identity of their own, conjuring up a densely melodic but infinitely wicked version of macabre extreme metal that has since been emulated by countless lesser-known bands.
