In The End Of Hope = LP = (LP)
In The End of All Hope, Dead In The Water's 2011 effort is impressive, especially given their Metalcore origins. I would have never guessed it, given this ultra-bleak four tracker. The band composes some beautifully grim material here, combining dark, post-rock atmosphere with early 90's UK doom/death coupled with the ethereal and trance-inducing elements of the shoegaze genre. The band's approach really shines on the last track. "Shadows In The Night Sky" - blending delicate, minor chord strings, female vocals with harsh, miserable atmosphere. The band employs a stand-up bass, which is particularly effective on the quiet moments... the juxtaposition between the harsh, distortion-laden parts with the quiet, reflective passages make a compelling listen. I'll even forgive the Black Metal-vox - something I generally abhore - because I think that the compostitions genuinely calls for a harsher edge to the vocals.
