Escargot Bianco (CD)
QUIKION is the name of a current Japanese band, worth to be discovered ! Obviously as influenced by the folk-rock tones of PENTANGLE than by the French minimalist school represented by Pascal COMELADE or KLIMPEREI, these three musicians use accordeon, percussions or any other toy that would happen to come between their hands over and over again. It is an endless list... They have added an element of their own however: Japanese-sung vocals ! The latter is carried out by the charming Yukiko TOTOKI. "Ramadan" (2004) is the second studio album of this trio, conjointly released on the Poseidon Records and Gazul labels. Many adaptations can be found there, stemming from the Yugoslavian, Romanian or English folklores. As for the title "Die Ballade Von Der Höllen-Lili", it was taken from Kurt WEILL. "Hallelujah !!" offers us to have a second look at the beginning of QUIKION's story, surely the most Progressive rock-oriented years: here's the reissue of a mini-CD called "Early Recordings 1995-1997", now completed by six bonus-tracks (Same period), the whole reaching one hour of music. Recorded in the year 2007, the new album is called "Kaprico". Initially released in 1999, "Escargot Bianco" is reissued ten years after by the Musea and Poseidon labels, with several previously unreleased bonus-tracks, plus one live song. The whole album is typical of the very peculiar musical style of QUIKION, an acoustic band influenced by European folk music, from France and Eastern Europe especially. The menu includes female vocals, acoustic guitar, and unusual instruments such as concertina, castanets, glockenspiel, accordion, pianica... The whole is very pleasant, refreshing and surprising.
