Surrender To The Rhythm : London Pub Rock Of The 70's = 3 CD = (CD)
In the spring of 1971, the American band Eggs Over Easy, living in British exile, persuaded the landlord of the local pub The Tally Ho to let them perform at the venue. They inadvertently became the catalysts that started the pub rock revolution. Brinsley Schwarz, Ducks Deluxe and Bees Make Honey played in a number of pubs, including The Kensington in Russell Gardens, The Lord Nelson on Holloway Road and The Nashville in West Kensington "Surrender To The Rhythm" shows the origins and development of the London pub rock scene in the seventies with all the above mentioned bands as well as key names like Dr. Feelgood, Ace, Kilburn and the High Roads, Dave Edmunds, Graham Parker and Elvis Costello. We follow the scene into the late seventies and the Stiff / Punk era with the arrival of new younger blood, including Eddie & The Hot Rods, The 101'ers, The Jam and Squeeze. Of course, there are also a number of bands that underpinned the scene but did not go on to become mainstream success: National Flag played 24 times at the Marquee in fifteen months, Bearded Lady was headlining the night The Jam was discovered by Polydor and Brewers Droop featured a serious young guitarist named Mark Knopfler
