I think this album falls into what a lot of black metal bands eventually run into. Like all of the Taake albums before it, this self-titled release features really strong melodic riffs that make the album stand out. The vocals, as always, are very good. Taake offer some of the best vocals in black metal. All in all, this is a really solid album and most black metal bands would love to have an album as good as this. For Taake, though, it's a bit tried and a bit uninspired. A lot of the album feels like it's formulated from the successes of the previous albums, which is disappointing coming off their most important release. I didn't originally get a sense of this, but the way this album has aged for me kind of reveals how the album lacks the same creativity of their last three releases.
