Rise Of The Hydra EP (CD)
Being an EP, and clocking in at only 34 minutes, there really isn't a need for a whole lot of diversity. They start the album up, crank out the sludge at a very high quality, and then they get out before it becomes stale andor boring. My only complaint about the album really is the barely audible bass. Because of the dual guitars, the bass gets pushed way back and almost isn't needed really, but being a fanatic for good bass, it disappointed me that there wasn't more. Chump change really though...do yourself a favor and check out this band. I'm very intrigued to hear how this band will progress and where they'll end up. They're unsigned right now and this EP is unreleased, but I could see somebody like Southern Lord or Meteor City records picking this band up and getting them the boost they deserve. They seem to have a lot of talent and a knack for good songwriting. They could go a sludgier route, a more doom-oriented route, or continue to mish mash everything and pump out some interesting metal. Either way, I'm done rambling. I urge any fan of sludge, or heavy metal in general, to find this album and let your ears feast.
