Volume II (CD)
Summer Bacchanalia are a new band from Italy who play some vintage sounding psych jam-rock with an added dose of modern drone. I don't know much about them except they are three guitar players that formed a band three years with two of the members switching to bass and drums in order to make the band work. 'Volume II' is a five song collection that sounds largely improvised and played in a rehearsal room with all the flaws you would expect to go with such a recording. However this
little hiccups in the sound and performance actually gives these tracks their own unique character. It also refreshing to hear such a off-the-cuff recording being released in this way. It is an honest approach to recording you don't get hear much in these days of computerized recording standards and gimmicks. The band has a style very much rooted in the 70's and there is nothing original about it but they more than make up for that with some interesting attempts at everything from Eastern-flavored music to way out stoner-ish psychedelia.
