Torquise = Digipack = (CD)
OK, let's get it out of the way. Devon Allman has a very familiar last name. That goes without saying. The son of legendary musician Gregg Allman, Devon has a musical sound and style all his own, with a heavy emphasis on the blues side of things. You can hear that instantly on the free-wheeling sound of "When I Left Home," as well as the stirring guitar grooves of "Homesick." He knows what he is doing instrumentally as well as vocally on both of these cuts. Vocally, Allman gets it done all around on this disc, with some of the other highlights including a stunning performance on "Don't Set Me Free," and a dramatic run through "There's No Time." He also gets a lift from Samantha Fish, who offers some nice duet vocals on "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around." Simply put, this disc was - and is - a joy to listen to from start to finish, with the two top cuts being the 70s vibe of "Time Machine," and the gorgeous "Into The Darkness." The latter is one of those performances that qualify as "Jaw Dropping." The vocal is so sublime on this cut, that you'd almost purchase the entire disc for that cut alone....but thankfully, there is so much more here. Needless to say, Devon Allman stands on his own two feet musically, regardless of last name!
