Endless Boogie (CD)
Endless Boogie. Indeed. John Lee Hooker opened up his sound with a great set of musicians and, let me tell you, this album jams. Every song has the usual deep matter-of-fact vocals of John with his trademark guitar licks and great slow, building blues lines, but behind that are frantic piano jams and wailing guitars. There's only 4 songs less than 6 minutes long. This also has "House Rent Boogie" which most classic rock enthusiasts would recognize as the inspiration for first half for George Thorogood & The Destroyers's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer." Thorogood's version has more of a restless, frantic energy whereas here, Hooker presents the story gradually with surprising suspense, slamming the cord at the end of each riff to ramp up the pressure. Overall a really enjoyable Blues record that in no way, shape or form lacks on the boogie.
