After finishing the first round of concerts with the revived King Crimson in May 1981, Fripp traveled to the U.S., where he spent a week performing at the Washington Square United Methodist Church at 135 W Fourth Street in New York. The church, built in 1860, hosted many congregations in the past, but in recent years had become a venue for groups such as the Black Panthers, Gay Men's Health Crisis and numerous arts organizations.
