The Rods' self-titled debut album on Arista appeared out of nowhere in record stores in 1981 and was like a breath of fresh air. The Rods were loud, raw and fast, prompting one English journalist to dub them the "American Motörhead".
Before singer/guitarist David "Rock" Feinstein, drummer Carl Canedy and original bassist Steve Starmer came together under the name The Rods, however, the three had already built up an excellent reputation as musicians in various bands (Feinstein, for example, in his cousin Ronnie James Dio's band, Elf).
