Love Cry / The Last Album (CD)
John Coltrane himself ensured shortly before his death that Impulse boss Bob Thiele gave his instrumental colleague Albert Ayler a record deal. Coltrane died on 17 July 1967 and Albert Ayler appeared four days later with his brother Donald and Ornette Coleman at the funeral of his "mentor". "Thiele's intention to let Ayler follow in Coltrane's footsteps became even clearer on 'Love Cry', Ayler's studio debut for Impulse," Ashley Kahn's book "Impulse! The label Coltrane created".
