Animal Collective is the most frustrating band I've ever heard. I can tell all four of these guys are very talented songwriters and musicians, because "Bluish" off Merriweather Post Pavilion, for example, is a beautiful song. However, they have an almost inimitable ability to take a good concept for a song and promptly fuck it up with every kind of synthesizer and effects pedal they could get their hands on that day. They're either so boring you forget you're listening to music (Campfire Songs, Tangerine Reef, half of Sung Tongs) or so random and annoying to the point of unlistenability (Here Comes the Indian, Strawberry Jam except "For Reverend Green," the other half of Sung Tongs).
