Marduk's brief, depraved 2000 EP, OBEDIENCE, features two songs that later appeared on 2001's LA GRANDE DANSE MACABRE and a cover of obvious influence Celtic Frost. Lyrically they switch things up a bit, letting S & M imagery choke out some of the elaborate Satanism they're generally fixated on, and the nod to Celtic Frost is a nice gesture. The music is as caustic as ever, with cadaverous croaking buried under a gauze of barbed wire guitars. When they started Marduk, the members wanted to make music dedicated to blasphemy, and they succeeded with every cruel note.
