Bilateral (CD)
'Bilateral' is most certainly one heck of a seasoned, and upbringing journey to the ears of a casual prog-rock listener. It's also an essential one, and I'm admittedly running out of words to describe the brilliance at hand. This is a primarily smooth record, albeit grippingly dark in a couple passages, bringing in just the right touch of melodic and calculating aggressivity. In this frame of thought, LEPROUS certainly remind me of OPETH, although it wouldn't be right to categorize them as drawing influence from one single band or sub-genre of music; they're a driving force of their very own, and they do bring their signature ingredient within the sauce to tempt and very quickly stun newcomers to this particular approach to forward-thinking heavy rock. This isn't to say that this release hasn't got its undeniable metal penchant. Nevertheless, the correct term to characterize the ensemble of these tracks would be fusion, and I can say without hesitation that these guys deliver this style in a manner that's definitely reminiscent of PINK FLOYD in some moments.
