One of the most experimental bands in rock history, the Talking Heads drew from funk, minimalism, African and Brazilian music to spread a new sound that was both visionary and haunting. They were always challenging and inventive, using infectious rhythms as a form of magic to introduce their ever-expanding audiences to exotic influences from faraway places they might otherwise never have heard. In this way, they - along with Peter Gabriel and Brian Eno - paved the way for the phenomenon of world music in the Eighties and beyond. They also created a series of highly original works, crowned by albums like Fear of Music and Remain in Light, that didn't so much appropriate their sources as transform them into something that felt startlingly new and incredibly accessible.
