"Hold Me Up" was a surprise in many ways. The first being that this pop-punk beauty was so drastically better than it's predecessor, the respectable "Jed". Second, that a killer pop-punk record was being released by Metal Blade Records, a label better known for metal acts like Fates Warning and Lizzy Borden. Third, being the awesome cover songs on this release. Both Prince's "Never Take The Place Of Your Man" and The Plimsouls' "A Million Miles Away" are given top notch treatment here, even improving on the originals. The former being sung by Lance Diamond, who turns in a brilliant, soulful performance on the Prince classic.
