Début albums are often improved upon by sophomore efforts as the band's expertise improves, whilst some initial efforts outshine all future releases. This album most definitely falls under the latter category. Like the follow-up, this one has all of the late 60s psychedelic vibe together with the crossover elements; that of both proto-prog and proto-rock. I find the song-writing on this album more memorable and the licks more interesting. There is more Hammond to be found here whilst not quite as much of the Mellotron.
