The Box Tops were one of the standout groups of the late 60s and early 70s. This compilation contains all their greatest hits and some songs that should have been hits. They are one of the most fascinating groups and "The Letter" is one of the everlasting, if short, pop classics of the decade
Their lead singer, Alex Chilton, was just 16 years old when they recorded "The Letter." He left the group at just 19. The group disbanded in early 1975 and reformed 18 years later with a new lineup as Big Star. They developed a style that anticipated the alternative rock of the 1980s and 1990s, and achieved "cult" status with Big Star. R. E.M. and The Replacements, as well as other popular bands, cited the group as an important influence.
