For those of you unfamiliar with Old Funeral, they were a Norwegian death metal band from the late 80's to early '90s. Although their music is pretty standard 80's style death metal (with some punk and hardcore influences), what makes Old Funeral noteworthy is who the members were. Varg Vikernes (who was still named Kristian at the time) played guitar for a short period of time, and would then go on to create Burzum (and, along with a few other people, the second wave of Norwegian black metal). Varg would also go on to obtain infamy well beyond the scope of this article. Olve Eikemo (aka Abbath) played bass for a little while and would go on to found Immortal, one of the most over rated Norwegian black metal acts of all time.
